Growth Factors and PRP Therapy

ISCELLI believes that stem cells injected into an area of the body will remain relatively quiescent and will not function as well without the growth factors and other component of the PRP. As a result, we feel we have made a positive change in our regenerative therapy success by utilizing growth factors as part of the overall cellular treatment for our patients.

The body’s first response to soft tissue injury is to deliver platelets packed with growth and healing factors attracting the critical assistance of stem cells and  initiating repair. When prepared sample of PRP is injected in an area of injury or disease it provides a much higher concentrated dose of the body’s own specific platelets, proteins and growth factors of what the body does on its own to heal injuries quicker and boost natural performance. Many athletes such as Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Ray Lewis, Peyton Manning, and Hines Ward, among others, have all undergone this platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy without the downtime and risk of surgery.

1. Growth Factors/PRP as “support therapy to stem cells”

Growth Factors (GFs) are bio-reactive proteins that we obtain from activated platelets of a PRP sample. At least a dozen major growth factors are released in high concentration, among others: platelet-derived growth factor, endothelial growth factor anti-inflammatory cytokines, interleukin, tumor necrosis factor and interferon.
PROCEDURE: To create a PRP therapy, a small sample of your blood is drawn from an and placed in a centrifuge that spins the blood at high speeds, separating the platelets from the other components of the blood. Growth factors are then lisated from the concentrated platelets and later mixed with the prepared stem cells to be injected into the area of injury or disease.

A vital compliment to the ISCELLI’s offered stem cell treatments consists on adding these growth factors and other stimulating proteins isolated from the patient’s sample of PRP. When injected into the affected tissue, these signaling factors instruct the body to send stem cells to the area of damage and at the same time cause the stem cells to reproduce and begin repair.

2. PRP as “individual therapy”

The so called “PRP Therapy” or “Plasma Therapy” is not a type of stem cell therapy nor is made of stem cells. PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is a fraction of plasma prepared from a blood sample to containing a concentration of platelets above baseline that under certain conditions will release “growth factors” that can stimulate the growth of stem cells and healing.

Who can consider a PRP therapy alone?

PRP therapy by itself relieves pain without the risks of surgery, general anesthesia, or hospital stays and without a prolonged recovery. In fact, This PRP therapy is a non-surgical approach and takes approximately one hour including preparation and recovery time. Most people return to their jobs or usual activities right after the procedure. .  Most cases of soft tissue injuries or disease, especially in the early stage, can be approach with PRP therapy alone, especially in the early stage.

Shoulder: Arthritis, rotator cuff tendinitis or tear, instability

Wrist/Hand: Arthritis, wrist or finger tendinitis, ligament tears or dysfunction of the fingers, DeQuervaine’s tenosynovitis

Elbow: Tennis & Golfers elbow

Hip: ITB Syndrome, bursitis, tears, Piriformis Syndrome, arthritis Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Knee: Arthritis, meniscus tears, partially torn or strained major ligaments of knee (ACL/LCL/MCL), patellar tendinitis, chondromalaci patella

Ankle/Foot: Arthritis, Achilles tendinitis, recurrent ankle sprains, peroneal and other foot or ankle tendinitis

What are the expected results?

PRP therapy is highly effective at relieving pain and returning patients to their normal lives. Because the goal of PRP therapy is to resolve pain through healing, it could prove to have lasting results. Initial improvement may be seen within a few weeks, gradually increasing as the healing progresses. The need for surgery can be greatly reduced by treating injured tissues before the damage progresses and the condition is irreversible. ISCELLI physicians apply their expertise to create an integrated treatment plan for each patient’s specific needs.
